In yesterday’s post, I spoke about how to distinguish dreams from visions from goals. But another question is, how do I set goals? Most people have a proclivity to set goals and not accomplish them. That’s because they’re doing it wrong. You need know how to set a goal so that you can accomplish it.
Here are the most critical factors that are required in accomplishing a goal:
- Goals HAVE to be personal – Your goal has to be something that YOU want to achieve. Others may have influence, but the most significant part of any goal is that YOU are the one that is passionate and you are the one that is motivated in completing it. Most people set goals based off of social pressure. These will never be accomplished.
- Goals HAVE to be specific and quantifiable – When you set a goal that is specific, you have a better idea of what you want to accomplish. I want to lose weight is not a goal. It is a statement. I want to lose 10 pounds is a specific, quantifiable goal.
- Goals HAVE to be time-constrained – I want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months is a goal that is specific, measurable, and time-framed.
